Success Story – Club Compass 2024-25

At Club Compass, Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) is an essential part of our program. Each week, the kids explore key SEL concepts through engaging activities that help them develop lifelong skills.
Recently, at our Dubois Club Compass site, 3rd–5th graders focused on building relationships and making new friends—a skill that will benefit them throughout their lives. To bring the lesson to life, the kids and volunteers played a beach ball game where each number on the ball corresponded to a question or topic.
During the game, Club kiddo, Anyaa, tossed the ball to a staff member, whose prompt was to name five personal attributes. As they paused to think, Anyaa eagerly chimed in, listing attributes she saw in them—“beautiful, strong, smart, and caring.” Inspired by her kindness, the other students joined in, adding more positive words. This simple yet powerful moment highlighted the impact of SEL at Club Compass. The students naturally applied what they had learned—lifting each other up, strengthening relationships, and fostering a supportive community. Moments like these remind us that the lessons we teach are truly making a difference!
