YLDP Update February 2025
Community Service Learning is an integral part of the YLDP Program. This month, the YLDPers put their lessons into action.
The YLDPers helped out PB&J Springfield by making approximately 180 sandwiches that supported the St. John’s Breadline! PB&J Springfield helps to supply sandwiches to Washington Street Mission, Salvation Army Shelter, Helping Hands, Contact Ministries, and St. John’s Breadline.
Our McClernand Club Compass kids benefitted from homemade pizzas made from scratch, using healthy ingredients by the YLDP crew. The teens learned to adhere to a budget, follow instructions, and work as a team. The Club kids were impressed and asked for the YLDP chefs to come back again!
Other notable activities for the YLDP youth were engaging enrichment activities with our community partners. Tia Mahr of Made Wright, Inc. facilitated a workshop on developing a nonprofit and creating logo ideas. Additionally, the youth took a trip over to Motherland Gardens to learn more about community service and how it impacts the local area.
We are excited to see how the next stages of their Community Service Learning develops!
